Taking the proven concept of a Parabolic Leaf Spring, OME has reimagined the design along with developing a new market leading Air Bag Kit. The OME team is proud to offer a truly designed and integrated Parabolic Leaf Spring and Airbag system that is both useful and safe for the vehicle.

Extensive chassis simulations and testing were carried out to determine the most suitable solution for the LandCruiser 70 Series and allows the driver to choose a comfortable parabolic leaf spring suitable for their daily weight, while using the airbag to accommodate up to 600kg of additional weight.

All this fully integrated and distributing the additional load to the designated areas of the chassis in a safe and calculated way.

It is extremely important to stay within the capacities of the vehicle’s axles and the permissible gross vehicle mass (GVM).

Although both are quite similar in their general shape, a parabolic spring has fewer leaves and tapers at each end compared to a multi-leaf spring, which has multiple leaves and has a downward effect where each leaf is progressively shorter than the last.

The added comfort achieved by a parabolic leaf spring is due to its ability to flex at a smoother rate and the elimination of the second stage is unmatched for a leaf spring ute and will completely change the way the vehicle rides.

It is important to note that because the 2nd stage is removed on a parabolic leaf spring, the airbag kit is a mandatory accessory to ensure vehicle driveability and durability. ARB will not warrant problems arising from mounting a parabolic leaf spring without the ARB airbag kit installed.

– SELECTION OF THE CORRECT OPTION

Thanks to the increased quality of the steel and the reduction in the total number of leaf springs, a parabolic leaf spring system is significantly lighter than the equivalent selection of multiple leaf springs. This makes them easier and safer to install and reduces the overall GMV of the vehicle.

Selecting a parabolic leaf spring option is the same as selecting a traditional multi-leaf leaf spring option. Choose the option that is closest to the daily full-time vehicle weight that is unlikely to change. This ensures that the vehicle is properly sprung to maintain ride height, control and comfort while the vehicle is in use.

Adding the airbag kit will provide the vehicle with the ability to carry an additional 600kg (300kg on each airbag) in variable weight by adjusting the pressure from 0psi – 45psi (maximum pressure).

It is essential that we choose the right spring option for the weight of the vehicle and the airbag kit is only used for when additional weight is added. The chassis is designed to take most of the load through the leaf spring mounts and while constant load is handled through these points, variable load is now taken care of through the airbags and mounting brackets.

Remember that it is very important to respect the capacities of the vehicle’s axles and the permissible total gross.
